Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray.
Melting Caramels
- In a small saucepan, melt caramels with 1 tablespoon of water over low heat until smooth, about 10 minutes.
Dipping Pretzels
- Dip each pretzel rod two-thirds into the warm caramel and let excess drip off. Place on the prepared foil to cool.
Melting Chocolate Coating
- Melt chocolate candy melts (or almond bark) with shortening in a microwave-safe bowl, using 30-second intervals until melted and smooth.
Chocolate Dipping
- Dip the caramel end of the pretzels into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off before returning to foil.
Adding Pecans
- Sprinkle finely chopped pecans on top of the wet chocolate coating.
Setting
- Let pretzels sit at room temperature until chocolate is completely hardened, about 30 minutes.
Storing
- Transfer Turtle Pretzel Rods to an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to one week.
Notes
For easier dipping, pour melted caramel into a deep coffee mug. If thickening, microwave for 10 seconds. Consider different chocolates or toppings for variations.
