Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, seasoned salt, dijon mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and crushed beef bouillon cube. Mix until well combined.
- Portion the meat into 5 or 6 equal pieces and shape into oval patties, about 1 inch thick.
Cooking
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook for about 4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove patties and keep warm. Pour out all but 1 tablespoon of grease, then add sliced onions. Cook until browned and tender, about 6 minutes.
- Add hot water and beef bouillon to the onions, bring to a boil. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and browning sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
- In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cool water to create a slurry. Add to skillet and cook until gravy thickens to desired consistency.
- Return patties to skillet, cover, and simmer until heated through, adding water if gravy becomes too thick.
Notes
Let patties rest for a few minutes after cooking. Adjust seasonings to taste, and consider making ahead and freezing for convenience.
