Ingredients

For the Beef Filling
  • 1 pound ground beef Rich and juicy, it forms the heart of your skewers.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Essential for enhancing the natural flavors of the beef.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adds a touch of heat and balance to the dish.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Aromatic and flavorful, it infuses depth into the beef.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Complements the garlic with its sweet, savory notes.
For the Skewers
  • 4 large flour tortillas Soft and pliable, they securely wrap around your ingredients.
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Creamy and melted, it adds richness and gooeyness.
  • 1/4 cup burger sauce A tangy, zesty touch that brings it all together.
  • 1/4 cup diced onions Crunchy and aromatic, these enhance texture and flavor.
  • optional Pickles For a briny crunch that elevates the taste profile.
  • Chopped green onions for garnish Fresh and vibrant, they add a pop of color and flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F if you’re planning to bake these skewers.
  2. In a bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Lay each tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spread a very thin layer of the seasoned ground beef evenly across each tortilla.
  4. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer. Next, top with diced onions, pickles (if using), and a drizzle of burger sauce.
  5. Tightly roll each tortilla into a log shape, ensuring that you keep the fillings nestled inside.
  6. Use a sharp knife to slice each log into pinwheels about 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick.
  7. Carefully thread several of the raw pinwheels onto wooden skewers, making sure they’re secured well.
  8. Place the skewers onto a baking sheet, grill, griddle, or skillet. Cook until the beef is fully cooked, tortillas are crispy and golden brown, and cheese is melted, usually around 10-15 minutes.
  9. Once cooked, garnish with chopped green onions and serve alongside extra burger sauce for dipping.

Notes

For variations, you can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken. Mixing in diced jalapeños or chili flakes can add spice. Incorporate bell peppers or mushrooms for added texture. Experiment with different types of cheese like pepper jack or mozzarella.
