Ingredients

Toppings
  • 4 pieces Shallots Finely sliced and fried until golden and crispy
  • 10 grams Parsley Fresh and vibrant for garnish
  • 1 piece Lemon Juicy, cut into wedges for serving
  • 400 grams Greek Yoghurt Creamy and tangy, served alongside
Main Ingredients
  • 100 ml Olive Oil Rich and fruity for frying
  • 2 tsp Nigella Seed Adds a unique flavor
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds Provides a warm, nutty kick
  • 500 grams Cooked Brown Rice Hearty base for the dish
  • 250 grams Cooked Lentils Nutritious and earthy

Method

Preparation
  1. Finely slice the shallots, separating the layers for even cooking. Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat and add the shallots. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until golden. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt with nigella seeds, chopped parsley stalks, a pinch of salt, and the juice of half a lemon. Set aside.
Cooking
  1. In the same oil, add cumin seeds and parsley stalks, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  2. Add cooked brown rice and lentils to the pan, stirring to combine. Cook until heated through, about 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Mix half of the crispy shallots into the rice and lentil mixture. Remove from heat and cover.
  4. Serve the Mujadara in bowls, garnished with fresh parsley and additional crispy shallots on top, along with yogurt and lemon wedges.

Notes

For added flavor, soak lentils beforehand and experiment with spices. Frying shallots in batches enhances crispiness. Mujadara pairs well with salads, pita, or grilled proteins.
