Ingredients

For the Marinade
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce A savory and salty condiment that enhances the dish’s depth of flavor.
  • 3 tbsp mirin This sweet Japanese rice wine adds a lovely glaze and fragrant sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp sake Enhances the marinade's flavors. Consider an alternative like vinegar for non-alcoholic cooking.
For the Salmon
  • 2 fillets fresh salmon fillets Rich in healthy fats, offering a tender and flaky texture.
  • 1/2 tbsp oil A neutral cooking oil to achieve that perfect crispy skin.

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by combining the soy sauce, mirin, and sake in a zip-lock bag.
  2. Place the salmon fillets into the bag with your marinade, seal the bag while removing as much air as possible.
  3. Ideally, let the salmon marinate overnight, but a minimum of three hours will enhance the taste.
Cooking
  1. Heat 1/2 tablespoon of oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
  2. Carefully place the salmon fillets skin-side down in the hot pan. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the skin is crispy.
  3. Drizzle the remaining marinade from the zip-lock bag over the flesh side of the salmon after the skin is browned.
  4. Flip the salmon and cook the flesh side for about 2 minutes, or until it reaches your preferred level of doneness.
  5. Remove the salmon from the pan and let it rest for a couple of minutes before serving.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, consider adding grated ginger or minced garlic to the marinade. Pat the salmon dry to achieve extra crispy skin. Adjust cooking heat as needed for even cooking.
