  • 1 tsp sesame oil A nutty finish that brings all the flavors together.
  • 1/2 tbsp rice vinegar Enhancing the overall taste with acidity.
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar To complement the other flavors.
Dumpling Wrapping
  • Minced green onions (optional) For garnishing with extra freshness.
  • Sesame seeds (optional) A beautiful sprinkle to elevate presentation.
  • Rice paper The versatile wrap that makes these dumplings gluten-free and adds a pleasing chewiness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Mix all filling ingredients (except minced carrots) in a bowl and set aside for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of neutral oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté minced carrots for about 2 minutes until they start to soften, then add the seasoned filling. Cook until fully cooked through and fragrant.
  3. Let the filling cool down slightly, then soak rice paper in warm water for 5-10 seconds until pliable.
Assembly
  1. Place about 2.5 tablespoons of the filling in the center of the rice paper. Fold the top part over towards the center, followed by the right and left sides, then roll it over the bottom part to seal.
  2. For extra thickness, repeat the wrapping process with another layer of rice paper.
Cooking
  1. Heat enough neutral oil in a pan over medium heat to coat the base. Place dumplings folded side down and press down with a spatula for even cooking.
  2. Shallow fry until golden brown on each side.
Serving
  1. Combine all dipping sauce ingredients in a bowl and serve with the dumplings.

Notes

For richer flavor, consider marinating the ground beef in soy sauce and ginger for a few hours. For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with mushrooms or tofu. Ensure rice paper wraps are soaked just long enough to become pliable.
