  • 1/2 cup Yellow Onion (diced) Aromatic and sweet, the onion brings depth and flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato Paste Adds a touch of acidity and color, enhancing the overall taste.
  • 1 1/2 cups Orzo These small pasta grains are perfect for absorbing flavors and creating a creamy texture.
  • 3 cups Chicken Broth A flavorful base that keeps the dish moist and adds richness.
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese (shredded) Creamy, salty, and nutty, the cheese brings everything together.
  • 1/4 cup Heavy Whipping Cream Adds luxurious creaminess, making each bite delightful.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cajun Seasoning A blend of spices that elevates the dish with its warmth and kick.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Enhances the dish with its fragrant aroma.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Fortifies the flavor profile with an extra layer of oniony goodness.
  • 1 teaspoon Parsley Fresh and vibrant, parsley brightens the dish visually and flavor-wise.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by heating a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced Cajun sausage and yellow onion. Cook for 3–5 minutes, until the sausage is nicely browned and the onions have softened.
  2. Remove the sausage and onions from the skillet and set aside.
Cooking
  1. In the same skillet, add the orzo and tomato paste, stirring well to combine. Allow the orzo to toast for about 1–2 minutes.
  2. Pour in the chicken broth along with the Cajun seasoning, onion powder, parsley, and garlic powder. Whisk to combine and bring everything to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat slightly and let it cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo reaches an al dente texture and has absorbed much of the broth.
  4. Once the orzo is cooked, remove the skillet from heat. Pour in the heavy cream and add the shredded Parmesan cheese. Stir until the cheese is fully melted into the creamy sauce.
  5. Mix in the cooked sausage and onions. Allow the dish to rest for about 5 minutes to soak up any remaining broth.
  6. Dish out the creamy Cajun sausage orzo, and enjoy!

Notes

Experiment with sausage substitutions, add vegetables for nutrition, try different cheese varieties, and adjust spice levels as per your preference.
